Hang up your shovel and trowel! Now you can use the time (and money) you save laboring in your garden to actually enjoy it. Drawing on the amazingly simple layering system of gardening developed in her previous "lasagna gardening" books, Lanza applies these principles to the ever popular topic of growing herbs. Her organic, commonsense approach uses natural ingredients, close planting, and generous mulching, with little or no fancy equipment. Here she shares her methods based upon almost fifty years of experience to give readers tips on :

- Using the herbs in recipes
- How to make herbal wreaths and create delicious herbal teas
- Using herbs for aromatherapy and potpourris
- How to grow and use edible flowers

This is the perfect book for all the busy people who want to reap the rewards of a garden but have neither the time, the energy, nor the confidence to get down in the dirt. Accomplished and amateur gardeners alike will love this ingenious process that allows you to create beautiful, productive, low-maintenance herb gardens.

The Harlem Reader: A Celebration of New York's Most Famous Neighborhood, from the Renaissance Years to the 21st Century

The Harlem Reader: A Celebration of New York's Most Famous Neighborhood, from the Renaissance Years to the 21st Century Review

There is no neighborhood in America as famous, infamous, and inspiring as Harlem. From its humble beginnings as a farming district and country retreat for the rich, Harlem grew to international prominence as the mecca
of black art and culture, then fell from grace, despised as a crime-ridden slum and symbol of urban decay. But during all of these phases there was writing in Harlem—great writing that sprang from one of the richest and most unique communities in the world. From Harlem’s most revered icons (like Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Ann Petry, and Malcolm X) to voices of a new generation (including Willie Perdomo, Mase, Grace Edwards, and Piri Thomas), The Harlem Reader gathers a wealth of vital impressions, stories, and narratives and blends them with original accounts offered by living storytellers, famous and not so famous. Fresh and vivid, this volume perfectly captures the dramatic moments and personalities at the core of Harlem’s ever-evolving story.

The 2009-2014 Outlook for Specialty Herbs in India

The 2009-2014 Outlook for Specialty Herbs in India Review

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for specialty herbs across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across over 4,900 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for specialty herbs. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in India). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for specialty herbs in India. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of India. For each state or union territory, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business.

Delmar's Integrative Herb Guide for Nurses

Delmar's Integrative Herb Guide for Nurses Review

Delmar's Integrative Herb Guide for Nurses is the first book to present the ways nurses can successfully integrate herbs into a caring practice alongside more conventional biomedical therapies. Herbs were once a major source of the remedies used in healing. The development of synthetic drugs during the twentieth century largely replaced the use of herbal therapies in nursing practice. This trend is beginning to change again, however, as nurses now encounter patients turned health care consumers who actively seek alternatives to biomedicine, such as herbal therapies. Today's nurse is also becoming more aware of a larger demographic group of patients who continue to use generations-old, plant-based remedies. The guide begins with an introduction to medicinal plants and includes a brief overview of botany, safe use information, and suggestions on how to use the guide in practice. The main body of the guide includes twelve chapters profiling fifty-eight common herbs. Each chapter contains practical information on how to integrate plant-based therapies into patient care. The guide concludes by showing nurses ways they can learn more about the use of plant therapies in holistic practice and includes a sample curriculum for a thirty-two week introductory course on the integrative use of plant therapies.
